Many doctors recommend using your knee CPM at night to avoid waking up with a stiff immobile knee in the morning. Usually, you can set your machine to 40 or 50 degrees of flexion and still have a very restful night with less pain and swelling.

CPM machines are not covered by my insurance for ACL surgery. However, I found it invaluable. During 48 hours post op, I was in bed 24/7. This CPM continue to gently work on my knee. Prevent my knee from freezing, decreased my swelling, and improve my pain control. This model does not look as sexy as the more expensive one sold on the web site. But it gets the job done. The controls are more modern than pictured. It no longer use the Apollo 13 era dials as show on the demo photo. Setting is easy. Just set the maximum degree of flexion and extension. Add any pauses and adjust the speed. Fist 24 hours my setting was 25 to 10 with speed of 1. After 48 hours I increase the range of motion to 30 -0 with a couple second pause at end of each phase. After a week, my setting is at 45 - 0. I use a much gentler setting during sleep.
I started walking 7 days post op. My physical therapist says my progression is ahead of schedule. She says I have progressed beyond CPM machine. I still uses it during rest for that passive stretching.
Also get a medicine ball and foam roller. Roll your leg on medicine ball while laying flat on your back to continue to work on increase range of motion. When resting, place heel on foam roller, if not using CPM.
Remember, even when order online, you still need a physician prescription.

I have a bad right leg that goes way back to when I was in my twenties, in a bad auto accident. I have had only 67 degrees in that right knee all my life and a fused right ankle with bone spurs, so I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to rehab well. The machine makes it possible to get that exercise even when you aren’t in the mood, or your tired. I used it every day for a couple of weeks, at least once and now my PT is pleased to see 116 degrees in my left knee. This has been my good leg for 53 years, and I was anxious to get it back to as full function as possible. I do think it made a difference.

When our CPM arrived we set it all up, I got into the machine, and my husband tried to start it. For whatever reason it was not responding as it did in the DVD. My husband called the company and talked to John, who took the time to talk him through the CPM. By the end of their conversation it was apparent this CPM macine was not right. John, the salesman, immediately ordered another CPM and told us it would ship overnight at their expense.
The next day our CPM arrived and it worked beautifully. I have been in it everyday, twice a day and it seems to be helping with my range of motion.

By the time I called Jason at MedCom in Colorado, I was in tears. I was just a few weeks out of total knee replacement surgery and could not secure a CPM machine (even though my insurance would have paid) due to errors on the part of my surgeon's staff. Finally, distraught and in pain, I decided to be proactive and order a rental that I would finance. Jason listened patiently to the story and guaranteed me delivery of a machine in two days. However, he went the extra mile and with approval from his supervisor, John, took the equipment to be shipped that very same evening of my call and it was on my doorstep in Ohio the very next morning!!! I loved the CPM machine. After a TKR it is very important to rehab the knee. I used the machine every day after a rehab session to help hold onto any gains I experienced during rehab. I would ice the knee and then jump onto the CPM and watch a movie. It felt great!! Highly recommended!!
